The Poles

„The Poles" is a duet composed of Witold Gombrowicz's "Diaries" and the texts of the homily and public speeches of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. Surprisingly, the views of Gombrowicz, considered a controversial artist, and Cardinal Wyszyński - the Primate of the Millennium - on many issues converge and build the image of two extraordinary intellectuals who, according to their skills and calling, approached the common cause called Poland with great care.

The recent premiere of „The Poles" at the Polish Theatre surprises with its ingenuity. „The Poles" are not only a characteristic of the nation, but also a dialogue between its two outstanding representatives - Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński (Olgierd Łukasiewicz) and Witold Gombrowicz (Radosław Krzyżowski). And although apparently the speeches of the cardinal and Gombrowicz's "Diaries" have nothing in common, Rafał Kosewski, the author of this adaptation, managed to combine them in a fluid and very coherent way.
