The Marriage
Belarusian State Puppet Theatre, Mińsk (Białoruś)
The young director, Aleksandr Januszkiewicz, with his vision of "The Marriage", boldly introduces the viewer to the difficult world of Gombrowicz. Noteworthy here are, above all, the excellent acting and daring interpretation that draws full handfuls from the inexhaustible possibilities of puppet theater.
The "wedding" of the Belarusian Puppet Theater is not only a festival event. This is a real sensation. A creative bomb that exploded unexpectedly. Nobody could have foreseen that Belarusian puppeteers would present all the philosophical material contained in "The Marriage" by Witold Gombrowicz, a great avant-garde classic, so clearly and ingeniously. The performance sounded like a wild march of illusions. Exactly as the Polish writer wanted. (...) I had the opportunity to see many performances based on "The Marriage." But as far as I can remember, this is the second performance that came so close to the truth of Gombrowicz, which managed to understand its depth. Because this writer's absurdity has such a load the truth that just throws you to your knees! Elena Danilova, "Zara" Brest, September 17, 211
