Trans - Atlantico
Teatr im. Ludwika Solskiego, Tarnów
In July 1939, Witold Gombrowicz boarded the ship "Chrobry" sailing to South America and never returned to Poland. The amazing cultural difference of hot and exotic Argentina allowed the writer, coming from a noble family, adhering to national traditions, to notice how much we, Poles, suppress our desires and passions in the name of patriotic compulsion.
The clash of Polishness with the southern taste, conservative patriotism with the freedom of a new life in exile, unbridled eroticism with a tight corset of imposed norms resulted in a novel in which Gombrowicz dealt with the national myths, anachronisms and stereotypes in a penetrating and ironic way, a novel that is still valid today. and much needed nowadays, the defense of the independence of the individual and the manifestation of individualism. The script of the performance was supplemented with excerpts from the writer's "Diary" from the first years of his emigration.
