We are reading Gombrowicz - 'Feast at Countess Kotłubaj's'
We invite you to another encounter with the works of Witold Gombrowicz. This time, actors will present the story "Feast at Countess Kotłubaj's". It's a grotesque view of social divisions, snobbery, and aristocracy. Is everything that seems "high" to us really such? We'll try to take a closer look at society and especially at ourselves. And we assure you that we will have a great time!
"In the grotesque 'Feast', Countess Kotłubaj and her guests, of course, eat a common cauliflower, while a boy named Kalafior roams the fields, approaches the palace window, and finally dies from exhaustion there. The connection between the man Kalafior and the vegetable cauliflower is purely formal and is based on the sound of the surname. The essence of the novella is that the hunger and suffering of poor Bolek Kalafior add flavor to the aristocrats eating the cauliflower-vegetable. The mystery, which my humanitarian reader cannot guess for so long, is the natural cruelty of any aristocracy."
