The Marriage
DESCRIPTION

"On the great stage of the theater, Markowicz built a soaring structure made of organ pipes. They are dark, shiny and cool here and there. In the background there are dark wooden stairs, as if smoky, with the same tables and stools in the front. We hear rhythmically repeating sounds. the ruining of the world. Organ pipes are falling from above, now they look like metal barrels of strange weapons. They pile up on the stage in a chaotic pile. Through irregular gaps the back wall of the theater can be seen. This is not an apocalyptic vision, but quite ordinary ruin. but the structure will remain jagged and broken until the end. It is easy to set up an inn from wooden furniture, or fragments of houses in Małoszyce, if you prefer; stack them on the landing of the stairs to the royal throne in the second act, and in the third act, create a large landing in the middle of the stage. This is the place of Henry who made himself king. It looks a bit like a scaffold. The performance of Minc is stretched between the mass and the farce, it takes place between the church and the inn. There is no God in the church, and the inn can be easily converted into a great throne room. A wedding is a drama of a modern man whose world has been ruined. This sentence of Gombrowicz almost became a definition. First we saw the world torn apart. Now we will participate in the destruction of man. Just participate as witnesses, mute, passive, maybe indifferent. Henryk turns to us, and so do the other actors. Not only does Englert speak the monologues directly to the audience, he also addresses questions "on the page" to us, he often plays with the audience. As if he took us as witnesses, he explained himself to us, dragged us into his dream. " Bożena Winnicka
