The Possessed

Witold Gombrowicz wrote "The Possessed" under the pseudonym Z. Niewieski as a sensational novel in episodes. In accordance with the requirements of the genre, it had to be intriguing and addictive enough for the readers to follow the fate of the heroes with bated breath in subsequent editions of daily newspapers. In creating a "reader" addressed to a wide audience, Gombrowicz reached for various motifs of popular literature, while maintaining his unique style.
