Witold Gombrowicz

Living Space Theatre

Ferdydurke
DESCRIPTION

Human bodies are strange. They have the ability to degenerate. They can adapt. But they like to deform. Bodies take years to take shape and suddenly deteriorate or disintegrate. Our bodies will force us to feel strange human experiences.

Man is not formed once and for all, but constantly creates and changes in our eyes under the influence of other people and the environment. What is worse, “it becomes dependent on its reflection in the soul of another person, even if that soul is idiotic” (W. Gombrowicz). Can a man be authentic – create his own form independent of others?

The performance was created as part of the Teatrogranty award given by Katowice City of Gardens, Institution of Culture by K. Bochenek - and thanks to the support of the Silesian Voivodeship Government.

The performance was awarded in the Competition for the Staging of Classic Works of Polish Literature "Living Classic" for the interpretation of Gombrowicz's novel.
