The day before the beginning of the 14th International Gombrowicz Festival, we invite you to a unique jazz concert, during which great artists will perform and present a composition written especially for this occasion!

UNIQUE EVENT AT THE THEATRE IN RADOM!

Zdzisław Piernik (tube, prepared tube, objects) & Rafał Iwański (gongs, percussion instruments, objects)

Zdzisław Piernik is an outstanding tuba player, soloist and interpreter of contemporary music. He has collaborated with many composers, his contribution to the promotion of Polish music in the world is enormous. Rafał Iwański from the HATI duo explores percussion and improvised music, basing on the sound of acoustic instruments, mainly ethnic ones from around the world. In their search for sonic phenomena, both musicians eagerly use prepared instruments and recycled objects. The trio HATI & ZDZISŁAW PIERNIK has a well-received collective CD album entitled "Avant-Garde out of Poland" (Requiem Records / FINA, 2018). Together they performed, among others at the National Audiovisual Institute (2017), at the Musicofilia Festival in Toruń (2018), at the Unsound Festival at the Tempel Synagogue in Kraków (2018).

Rafał Iwański - percussionist, composer of electroacoustic music, born in 1975. Ethnologist by education (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń). Co-founder and musician of the Toruń group HATI (existing since 2001, co-created with Rafał Kołacki since 2006), Bydgoszcz-Toruń avant-rock bands INNERCITY ENSEMBLE, ALAMEDA 5 and the electric guitar duo KAPITAL (from 2013 to 2018 - together with Jakub Ziołek ) and the audiovisual project from the borderline of music and science VOICES OF THE COSMOS (co-created with Wojciech Zięba and astronomer Sebastian Soberski). As a soloist and with ensembles, he has played hundreds of concerts in Poland and over a dozen in other European countries and in the USA. He has cooperated on concerts and recordings with musicians and artists such as: Z'EV, Richard Pinhas, Zdzisław Piernik, Jerzy Mazzoll, John Zorn, Andrzej Przybielski, Sławek Ciesielski (ex Republika), Jeff Gburek, Wojciech Jachna, Jacek Buhl, Anna Zielińska, Anna Pilewicz, Xavier Bayle, Raymond Salvatore Harmon. He has participated in the recording and production of several dozen albums released on CDs and DVDs, vinyl records and cassettes. Co-organizer of the international CoCArt Music Festival held at the Center for Contemporary Art in Toruń (11 editions from 2008 to 2019), artistic director of the Musicofilia Festival organized together with the Toruń Korzenie Kultury Foundation and music consultant for several music festivals. Member of the Polish Society of Electroacoustic Music. He has co-conducted educational sound workshops for children, adolescents and adults on many occasions.

JERRY & THE PELICAN SYSTEM will perform in a special line-up, performing a composition written specially for this occasion.

Jerzy Mączyński (born March 17, 1995) - Polish saxophonist and composer. From an early age, he was educated in Music Schools in jazz and classical music classes (including the Frederic Chopin State Music School in Warsaw). A graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław. He spent the last year of his undergraduate studies on a scholarship in Denmark, where he perfected his music workshop at Syddanskmusikkonservatorium. In June 2019, he received a master's degree in art at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the field of contemporary music performance.

Co-founder of the freejazz collective P.E. Quartet, with which he released an album entitled "Whatever" in 2018. Leader of the music concept Jerry & ThePelicanSystem with whom in May 2019 he released his debut album in the prestigious publishing series "PolishJazz".

In his career so far, the musician has played on many Polish and international stages, including: at music festivals: Jazz Jantar, Festival Dwa Brzegi, NCPA Mumbai, Habitat in New Delhi, Lublin Jazz, Jazz Jamboree. He was educated by such personalities as Greg Osby, Perico Sambeat, but also Michał Kulenty and Zbigniew Namysłowski.

He is an active concert musician and has collaborated with musicians from all over the world, including: Thomas de Perquery, Nitin and Sawhney. He constantly looks for various sounds. His style is deeply rooted in the European avant-garde. He has worked many times as an arranger and composer on theatre productions, including the Capitol Theatre in Warsaw.

The concert is co-financed by the Mazowieckie Voivodeship Self-government.
