Can literature influence society? Just as Gombrowicz dreamed?

Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, the Jan Kochanowski Popular Theatre in Radom in 2021 completed the task "XV International Gombrowicz Festival - activities related to the festival". One of the components of this project was the organization of the panel discussion "Can literature affect society? Just as Gombrowicz dreamed?”

The meeting was hosted by Michał Pabian (playwright at the Tadeusz Łomnicki Nowy Theatre in Poznań). Together with the invited guests, we pondered the role of literature in shaping social and civil attitudes presently and whether literature can really influence society.

The literary debate took place on September 13th, 2021 on the Theatre Small Stage, was broadcast live on the Internet and translated into polish sign language. It was an accompanying event to the "Possessed by Literature" festival organized by the Witold Gombrowicz Museum in Wsola.

It was difficult to exhaust the subject during the meeting, so the result of our panel discussion is the publication with the same title, in which we included broader statements made by the participants of the debate and people associated with the Witold Gombrowicz Museum in Wsola. We hope that we will find in it at least a partial answer to our question.

Our project is, as always, kindly supported by Rita Gombrowicz.

We encourage you to read the publication here (polish).

Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport and the Municipality of Radom.
