XVI MFG Ślub - Narodowy Teatr w Kosowie

“The Marriage” by Gombrowicz is not an ordinary drama or a story about everyday life. The author transports the audience to a world that, like contemporary Kosovo, is struggling with the trauma of the past and trying to build a new reality. In the play, the main character, Henry, returns to a world he no longer recognizes, which becomes an allegory for returning to a place marked by war, social and political divisions.
The central theme of the play, however, is the question of whether it is possible to rebuild values, relationships and order in a post-conflict world. The driving force behind the dramatic plot of “The Marriage” is the struggle for identity, dignity and the restoration of moral order.
The act of marriage, instead of being a traditional symbol of unity, becomes an attempt to make a “pact” between characters representing different, often contradictory, expectations and visions of the future. Chaos, absurdity and the grotesque constantly disrupt this order, highlighting the difficulty of creating a coherent individual identity in a world devoid of real authorities. A world where everything seems “imaginary, distorted,” where a funeral is more important than the dead, appearance than the mind, and marriage than love.
“The Marriage,” directed by Polish director Norbert Rakowski at the National Theater of Kosovo in Pristina, is the first staging of this drama in Kosovo.
The Local Government of the Mazovian Voivodeship is a partner of the event.
